The Great Junk Hunt
What a great Saturday! So grateful we live in a place that’s not only beautiful, but has a TON of things to do! We live in the Seattle area and have literally hundreds of cool places to visit around us.
Today we visited Monroe, WA for The Great Junk Hunt. I went with 2 family members and we had an awesome time. That’s saying a lot, because usually big events and crowds totally overwhelm most of my family, so we’re always nervous about potential panic attacks and visits cut short. But today was just great!
So, if you’re not familiar with this event, you can check it out here: https://www.thegreatjunkhunt.com/markets/monroe-washington-vintage-market
It’s really mostly just a gazillion antique dealers who take 2 days and set up booths to sell their very cool wares. The event in Monroe is housed in several buildings on the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. There’s a fair amount of walking, but it wasn’t too bad. We opted to pay $12 instead of $10 so we could come in early – 2 hours before general admission. I would HIGHLY recommend that plan, as it was sooo nice to walk around and have plenty of room to ourselves.
We weren’t there looking for anything specific that we NEEDED (haha!) but I did have a few cooking-based things I kept my eye open for, such as vintage cookbooks (older than 1950), Springerle Cookie Molds (I’ll be selling my cookies soon) and vintage bakeware. We were totally prepared to just look around without buying anything. But of course, we DID find things. And I’m rather proud of myself for limiting my purchases to what I could easily carry.
Here’s what I ended up with:

- Victorian Tin Ice Cream Mold
- Mini Madeleine Pan
- Gingerbread Bunny Cookie Cutter
- Old School House Cookies Cutter
- 1914 Cook Book – The Boston Cooking School, by Fannie Farmer
- 1817 Cook Book – Domestic Cookery
- Some not-so-old costume jewelry – HUGE fake pearls, which I couldn’t resist!
And I’ve set it out on my mom’s cedar chest, with a beautifully crocheted doily made by Verbena, herself!
Did I NEED any of it? Nooooo, but I’M SOOOO HAPPY! Especially about the 1817 cookbook. I mean – WOW! That’s so incredibly old. And I totally plan to use it. First I’m going to read the whole thing, and then I’m going to start making the recipes. I’ll post as I do, so check back regularly :).

Hi Sue!
Sorry, this message was buried, and I just now saw it.
Yes, I have a Cottage-licensed bakery out of my home in Everett.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the goodies, and I would love to accommodate any requests. Are you looking for something specific?
